Mengenal Anoa, Sapi Cebol dari Sulawesi

Abdul Haris Mustari Departemen Konservasi Sumberdaya Hutan, Fakultas Kehutanan IPB, Bogor (haris.anoa@yahoo.com) Beberapa nama lokal anoa Anoa, sejenis sapi kerdil yang hidup di hutan tropis Sulawesi. Mustari (1995, 2003) menyatakan bahwa penduduk di Sulawesi menyebut anoa dengan nama yang berbeda-beda sesuai dengan etnis yang ada. Di Minahasa dan sekitarnya anoa disebut  Buulu Tutu ,  Bandogo Tutu  dan di Gorontalo disebut Sapi Utan, Dangko atau Langkau. Di bagian tengah Sulawesi Suku Kaili menyebutnya Nuua dan di Dampelas disebut Baulu. Etnis Kulawi di dataran tinggi Sulawesi Tengah menamainya Lupu, dan di Buol Toli-Toli anoa dinamai Bukuya. Di bagian tenggara Sulawesi, dalam bahasa daerah Tolaki, anoa dikenal dengan nama Kadue. Bahkan suku Tolaki dalam bahasa daerahnya dapat membedakan dua jenis anoa yaitu Kadue meeto (meeto artinya hitam)untuk anoa yang warnanya hitam atau anoa dataran rendah dan Kadue wosula (wosu berarti gunung) untuk anoa yang warnanya...

POPULATION DENSITY AND DISTRIBUTION OF LOWLAND ANOA (Bubalus depressicornis) IN SOUTH EAST SULAWESI, INDONESIA

The field study was conducted in Tanjung Peropa (38,927 ha) and Tanjung Amolengo (604 ha) Wildlife Reserves, situated in the very remote areas in the south-eastern tip of the mainland of Southeast Sulawesi in the period of 2000 and 2002. Population of the lowland anoa were estimated using the Line Transect Method and Program DISTANCE 4 was applied to estimate density. A total of 20 and 10 sightings of anoas were made during the 372 and 124.3 km of transects walked in Tanjung Peropa and Tanjung Amolengo reserves, respectively. Since the encounters totalled fewer than 40 observations, for analyses, the data were pooled and population density was calculated based on the pooled data, resulting in an estimated density of 1.3 anoa...
